Our Role Establishing Skills Insight JSC Skills Impact held a Skills Service Organisation (SSO) role between 2016 and 2022. In 2023 we established one of ten Job and Skills Councils (JSCs), after a submission to move into the role was backed by over 200 letters of support from a broad range of industry stakeholders. This new JSC, Skills Insight, has a broader scope to deliver outcomes that support a responsive VET system and a skilled and resilient national workforce. The industry coverage of Skills Insight is similar to our past coverage as a Skills Service Organisation.

Initial survey responses are indicating different views about the role workplaces and RTOs play in skilling Australia’s future workforce.
On behalf of the industries we provide services to, we are conducting research to help us provide support to the IRCs we work with. We are investigating some of the challenges and opportunities for improvements to the VET sector that have been flagged with us by IRCs, industry stakeholders, RTOs and trainers.
Responses are still being received and with more than 250 responses to date, it is interesting to read the widely different opinions people have about the role of workplaces in training and assessment. For example, of the responses so far, 71% of participants agree or strongly agree that workplaces should take a more direct role in training. There is more of a mixed response in regard to whether workplaces should take a more direct role in assessment.
We look forward to receiving more viewpoints prior to a full analyses and publication of the survey results by Griffith University.
