Thank you to everyone who provided validation and comment on the final draft units, skill sets and qualifications that were made available for the projects below.

Your input is now being processed before the documents move into the final checking stage.

Small Companion Animal Incident Management Project

A coordinated effort is required to manage the safety of pets and their owners in the case of an incident like a fire or flood. The 2019-20 Australian Bushfires highlighted the need for consistent training and competency standards in this area when dealing with incidents across state lines.

Based on feedback collected from industry throughout the project, the drafts have been updated so that they reflect the specialist skills required by those involved in the rescue of companion animals.

Trainers of Assistance Dogs Project

Assistance dogs are being used for an increasing number of reasons, as understanding of their benefits grows. Unique skills are required to train dogs and clients to work together to achieve the best outcomes. It is important these skills are at a consistent standard, so that people and dogs across the country can access the same high level of guidance and care.

Your feedback throughout the project has been used to inform updates to the drafts, so that they reflect the specialist skills required for trainers of assistance dogs. They have been updated to clarify language and adjust content to focus on the wellbeing of dogs.
