Safety, Quality and Consistency in the Delivery of Equine Training

Skills Impact has been asked by the AISC to seek guidance with the relevant IRCs to progress a process that will allow industry to discuss, formulate and agree to changes required to skills standards and qualifications to improve safety, quality and consistency in the delivery of equine training. A discussion paper is currently available for industry feedback on the Skills Impact website. Feedback will determine the content of a business case, to inform whether work on the relevant skills standards and qualifications is required.

The discussion paper asks for feedback on the following:

  • The potential for changes to skills standards and qualifications contained within relevant training packages that may assist to reinforce safe working practices for people using horses.
  • The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) recommendations that relate to equine training. While some of these recommendations are outside of the scope of the training package development process as managed by IRCs and SSOs, they raise awareness about broader equine safety issues, which will help with safe training delivery practices.

Once received, industry views will be incorporated in theĀ IRC Equine Business Case for the Department of Education and Training.
