Our Role Establishing Skills Insight JSC

Skills Impact held a Skills Service Organisation (SSO) role between 2016 and 2022. In 2023 we established one of ten Job and Skills Councils (JSCs), after a submission to move into the role was backed by over 200 letters of support from a broad range of industry stakeholders. This new JSC, Skills Insight, has a broader scope to deliver outcomes that support a responsive VET system and a skilled and resilient national workforce. The industry coverage of Skills Insight is similar to our past coverage as a Skills Service Organisation.

Revised Skills Standards for Advanced Wine Operations

Large-scale wineries require input from a team of skilled people, often drawing on temporary workers to supplement the workforce during harvest and vintage. Coordination and leadership of this workforce is key during these busy times.

Feedback Sought on Meat Industry Skills Standards

Have your say on how skills standards are defined for the meat processing industry. Draft units of competency, skill sets and qualifications are now available for your review and comment, covering skills relevant to the Diploma and Advanced Diploma of meat processing, halal meat processing, poultry processing and game harvesting. Register for a Workshop

Workshops and webinars are now open for registration for the following projects, which have moved to the development phase. Drafts Coming Soon for Fishtech & Aquabotics

Tasks that were once performed manually now require skills in operating technology and managing and interpreting data. As such, relevant units of competency are being reviewed so that they are suitable for use in real-time distant operations. New units and skill sets have also been identified for development. New Crocodiles Project Underway

Industry is driving this project to define the skills required for all job activities that involve crocodiles. This will be captured in units of competency that will promote safe and sustainable interaction with crocodiles across industry sectors. The food and beverage processing industry has adapted to consumer demand over the past ten years by pursuing innovations in traceability, contamination control, and automation. As a result, units of competency relating to food and beverage processing are being reviewed to ensure they are up to date and meet the needs of the industry.

There’s Still Time to Have your Say on Advanced Wine Operations Skills

Larger scale wine producers need a whole team of skilled workers to get their products into international and domestic markets. Consultation with industry has identified gaps in how skills are described in the current Certificate III in Wine Industry Operations, particularly in cellar operations and bottling and packaging.

New Pharmaceutical Bioprocessing Project

At present there are no nationally endorsed units of competency available for this growing area of pharmaceutical processing and manufacture. Consultation with industry will continue throughout this project to identify the skills required to work in this field and address these skills in revised or new units of comeptency. Skills Standards for Racing Captured

Over the past year, industry experts from around the country have volunteered their time and expertise to projects in greyhound health assistance, horse breeding, and retraining greyhounds and horses to new environments. The projects were driven by industry and overseen by the Racing and Breeding Industry Reference Committee.
