New Projects: Racing and Breeding

New Projects

Three new projects are now underway for the racing and breeding industry, to review qualifications, skill sets and units of competency so they meet current industry skills standards and practices.

The projects were approved to go ahead by the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) after these skills were identified as a priority in the 2018–2021 Racing IRC Skills Forecast and Proposed Schedule of Work.

Retraining Horses & Greyhounds to New Environments Project

This project will look at the skills required to assess, re-train and re-home horses and greyhounds after their racing careers have finished, and to incorporate these skills into qualifications, skill sets and units for the racing industry.

Opportunities for stakeholder input

Stakeholder input is appreciated throughout the duration of this project. The qualifications, skill sets and units need to reflect real work experience. So if you work in the sector, Skills Impact would love your input and help. We will keep you informed of project updates and consultation opportunities via this newsletter and the project webpage. However, your feedback is welcomed at any time. Please feel free to contact the project manager, Ruth on 03 9321 3526 or [email protected].

We invite you to provide your feedback on the existing units, skill sets and qualifications that will be reviewed as part of each project. Your feedback will help us in drafting revised versions which will be available for industry consultation in October and November this year.
