Have Your Say on Draft  Skills Standards for Meat Slicing & Rendering

Draft units, skill sets and qualifications that have been developed as part of the below projects are now available for broad industry feedback.

Input from those with experience in meat rendering processes and techniques and/or working with meat slicing equipment is important to ensure that the updated skills standards match real industry job roles and skills needs.

Meat Slicing Project

An existing smallgoods unit for slicing meat using meat slicing equipment and six related skill sets have been reviewed and updated to suit a broader range of environments and job roles, including retail butchers. This will support skills development for those who work with meat slicing equipment to effectively slice meat and implement work health and safety processes.

The unit has been updated with guidance from subject matter experts. Six skill sets that already contain the existing unit have also being updated.

Meat Rendering Project

Meat rendering is an essential part of the meat processing industry, reusing and repurposing animal by-products to reduce food waste and increase sustainability.

A group of industry experts were engaged to revise the national qualifications and skills standards for rendering and pre-rendering processes, so that they support current skills.

The updated skills standards will support the skills required to promote sustainability and reduce food waste by reusing and repurposing animal by-products through rendering techniques.
