As part of the projects listed below, draft skills standards have been developed to define the skills required for entry level roles, high-level roles and remote operations.

Entry Level Forestry Skills Project

Attracting and training new entrants is a key focus of the forestry industry, with high demand from local and international markets and government commitments for additional planting.

Updated qualifications and skills standards for entry level forestry roles are now available for feedback. They have been revised to better support school-based VET training or apprenticeships as well as the hands-on skills required.

High-Level Forestry Skills Project

Growing sustainable production forests and commercial plantations for timber, wood and fibre products requires high level skills in supervision, planning and management.

Draft qualifications and skills standards are now available for your input. They capture changes in the work environment, including skills for working with new technology and data.

Remote Forestry Operations Project

Forestry workers often work in small teams in remote locations, requiring specific safety skills for the work environment. Expertise is needed to promote the wellbeing of others and monitor safety compliance.

Two units of competency have been developed as part of this project, to support safety culture and practices in remote forest operations.
