Our Role Establishing Skills Insight JSC

Skills Impact held a Skills Service Organisation (SSO) role between 2016 and 2022. In 2023 we established one of ten Job and Skills Councils (JSCs), after a submission to move into the role was backed by over 200 letters of support from a broad range of industry stakeholders. This new JSC, Skills Insight, has a broader scope to deliver outcomes that support a responsive VET system and a skilled and resilient national workforce. The industry coverage of Skills Insight is similar to our past coverage as a Skills Service Organisation.

Have Your Say About the Draft Revised RTO Standards

All Australian Governments are committed to supporting high-quality training in the VET system. Reforms are currently underway to better support RTOs to achieve this.   The Australian Government is seeking feedback on proposed revisions to the Standards for Registered Training Organisations. Legislation for Jobs and Skills Australia Passed

Jobs and Skills Australia is an interim statutory body that will provide independent advice on current, emerging and future workforce, skills and training needs. Consultation on the final model for Jobs and Skills Australia is underway. Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA) will build on the work started by the National Skills Commission (NSC) and have a broader remit, focusing on workforce planning and fostering working partnerships with state and territory governments, unions, industry, and education providers. Your involvement will help provide insight into industry-specific issues impacting VET and skills reform, which will be crucial during the next round of industry skills projects. This month, Federal, State and Territory Skills and Training Ministers met in person for the first time since 2019. They discussed the outcomes of the Jobs and Skills Summit, which saw Australians coming together to work constructively on the challenges and opportunities facing the Australian labour market and economy.

Final Versions of Industry Skills Reports – Available

As part of our skills reporting for 2022, Skills Impact has brought together the insights of 12 Industry Reference Committees to produce an Agribusiness, Food and Fibre Industries Skills Report. The first of its kind, the report identifies common themes impacting industry sectors across food, fibre and agribusiness. Nine individual Industry Skills Reports have also been produced to present insights specific to each industry. Government-funded VET students up in 2021

The National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) recently released a report revealing that students enrolled in government-funded vocational education and training (VET) in 2021 were up by 5% compared with 2020. The report also showed that in 2021, most students were enrolled in nationally recognised training (95.9%) and the remainder in non-nationally recognised training. In 2021, 1,198,500 students were enrolled in nationally recognised training and 98,400 in non-nationally recognised training, which was an increase from 2020. Most of those enrolled in … Read More
